Rock Band
Rock Band
Prerequisites: Rockers must meet with the instructor before they are placed in bands. Rock band can be for beginners as long as there is an appropriate fit for them with other beginners. The Rock Band program is concerned with matching musicians that have the potential of becoming members of cohesive long-lasting bands.
Class Description: The rock bands are given the opportunity to either pick cover songs that they would like to play or compose original music. It is a priority of the YAA to encourage the bands to choose their own creative direction as this is believed to be at the heart of the rock band experience. Students learn the ins and outs of being in a rock band from compositional and rehearsal techniques to the preparation needed for a live performance. The YAA provides at least two performances a year for the students in the program. Rock bands rehearse for one hour a week.
Student responsibilities: 15-20 minutes of instrumental practice daily. Since a major element of this class is the attempt to replicate the process of being in a professional rock band, student behavior is of the utmost importance. Collaboration and conflict resolution are large parts of being in a successful rock band. Beginning musicians are urged to take private lessons in order to enrich their experience and facilitate faster growth.
