What benefits come out of learning an instrument or participating in the Arts?
Back to TopHow do I know my child will click with the instructor?
Students are welcome to do a paid trial lesson. Parents are welcome to sit in to see if the instructor is suitable for the child’s needs and goals. If this instructor doesn’t fit your liking, we have a variety of instructors that your child can try. YAA instructors work for the Boys and Girls Clubs and are not contracted out. This means the instructors are not in competition with one another. Movement between instructors is fine by us!
How do I know my instructor is safe and qualified:
All of our instructors have gone through an intensive formal interview, background check, and drug test upon hire.
Most all of our instructors have received a degree in Music Education and have experience teaching in a variety of aspects. Please ask manager/office for details on a specific instructor’s background.
Back to TopHow do we meet the instructor?
Please set up an appointment with the office. Instructors do not have office hours and work after school hours between 3:00p-8:00p on their scheduled day of the week. We also offer a variety of Open Houses through out the school year. Students and Parents can meet the instructors and try out instruments. All ages welcome!
Back to TopWhat instruments do you teach?
We offer a wide range of instruments. If you don’t see a specific instrument on this list, please ask—one of our experience instructors may be qualified to teach it.
Back to TopWhere do private lessons take place?
All our lessons are done at our facility. Each instructor has a private lesson studio where parents are welcome to attend, but not encouraged.
Instructors DO NOT do offer in-home private lessons.
Back to TopDoes my child need to provide their own instrument in order to take a lesson? Do you rent instruments?
Yes, each child must provide their own instrument with the exception of piano/keyboard and Percussion. It is recommended that you have one at home for practice.
YAA does rent instruments for $20 a month but only have a few available. Please speak to the office for details.
Back to TopHow much are Private Lessons? Is a Trial Lesson an option?
Private lessons are $28 per half hour for all instruments and instructors. Private lessons are once a week. Lessons are month to month during the school year (Sep-June). Summer lessons are scheduled before summer begins and are paid in packages. No contract.
Yes-Students are welcome to pay for a trial lesson for regular pricing before committing to a full month of lessons.
Back to TopWhat is your cancellation policy? What if I want to go on vacation?
Because we don’t ask for a contract between the student and our program, we ask for you to follow these guidelines to our cancellation policy.
Back to TopCan I change my lesson time once it is set?
Yes, you can! Lessons are not set in stone. You must inform the office that you want to change for the following month. All changes and cancellation notices must be written or emailed and given by the 22nd of the preceding month
Back to TopWhat happens if my instructor is sick or cancels?
You are not responsible for lessons cancelled by the instructor. The majority of our instructors are professional musicians and at time will need to time off for gigs, or going on tour. We will do our best to reschedule or will credit you back for any missed lessons. We will notify you by email or phone for upcoming cancellation.
Back to TopWhat is your cancellation policy for group classes?
Classes are a one time rate at the beginning of the school year. If for some reason your student will need to drop you will be prorated up to the cancellation and charged a $100 cancellation fee.
For an example: If you child drops half way through the school year, you will be credit ½ credit minus the cancellation fee of $100.
Our cancellation policy encourages parents and students to stick it out through the school year. Band classes are a group effort and it is important to provide dedication and loyalty to the band.
Back to TopCan I pay for half the year for a group class?
Unfortunately, we no longer offer this as an option. Again, we encourage students and parents to make this a priority. Band classes are a group effort and dedication is necessary to make this a positive experience for all students.
Back to TopWhat instruments can my students play in Traditional Concert band?
Most traditional instruments are welcomed! Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Percussion (bells, snare drum, etc), Brass (trombone, trumpet), Guitar and keyboard are not normally available for these classes.
